The amount of the toll depends on the category of the motor vehicle. The toll categories are as follows:
• D1: motorcycles, and motor vehicles with a maximum total permissible weight of 3.5 tons, including any trailers
• D2: motor vehicles and motor vehicles with trailers (long vehicles) with a maximum total permissible weight of over 3.5 tons, but not more than 7.5 tons
• D3: motor vehicles and motor vehicles with trailers (long vehicles) with a maximum total permissible weight of over 7.5 tons, but not more than 12.0 tons
• D4: all motor vehicles that do not fall in categories D1, D2 or D3.
Buses, with or without trailer, with a total permissible weight of over 7.5 tons shall fall into the category below the one they would belong to based on their total permissible weight.
The maximum total permissible weight of a motor vehicle and its trailer is established on the basis of the official entry in the vehicle registration document.
It is important to note that road usage rights shall not be valid for a time period before the e-vignette was purchased. Permits are not valid retrospectively.

IMPORTANT! Motorists must have a valid vignette when entering a toll road!
In the event of an inspection based on stopping vehicles, the driver must stop the vehicle and show the vehicle’s (and the trailer’s) documents to the inspector for toll category verification.
The State Motorway Management Company Ltd can perform inspections on any toll sections, including the adjoining rest stops, as well as junction exit and entrance roads that are accessible only from, or leading to, toll sections.
The sales points located along toll road sections are not intended to sell authorisations for the current trip, but to make the purchase easier for future trips. This means that the mobile groups can also check motorway authorisations at the sales points alongside the toll sections. In such occasions, the indication of the intention to purchase road-use authorisation does not exempt the driver from the obligation to pay an excess charge.
Driving without valid road-use authorisation on a toll road section qualifies as unauthorised road use!
A road-use authorisation is invalid:
- if the motorway vignette has been issued for a lower toll category than required for the motor vehicle (long vehicle) being checked;
- if the registration number indicated on the voucher or in the confirmation message is not identical to the actual registration number of the vehicle;
- if the vignette has expired, or the validity period has not yet started.
Road use is made legal by the voucher or, for electronic toll payment, by the confirmation message.

If a vehicle has no valid authorisation for road use at the time of inspection, or, in the case of electronic purchase, the driver does not have a confirmation message sent by the provider, the motorist must pay an excess charge established on the basis of the vehicle’s toll category. The excess charge can be paid on the spot by bank card, at any customer service office, by postal money order, or through bank transfer. With regard to electronic inspection based on the identification of the registration number, the excess charge can be paid at any customer service office or else by postal money order or through bank transfer after receiving the excess charge notice (the information regarding these options is detailed in the excess charge notice, in its information section). Grace periods are calculated from the date of inspection in the case of on-site inspections, and from the receipt of the excess charge notice in the case of electronic inspections.
The registered owner of the motor vehicle (the operator) is liable to pay the excess charge!
