Road works with major traffic restrictions on the M1
The extremely rainy weather this spring led to a significant deterioration of the surface on some sections of the expressway network managed by the State Motorway Management Company Ltd, with special regard to the M1 sections close to Budapest. In order to repair the surface defects, the company will carry out extraordinary reconstruction works on the concerned motorway sections between August and October.
The unusually wet weather in spring severely affected the surface of the M1 motorway sections near Budapest, with special regard to the inner and the climbing lanes that are most used by heavy vehicles. Due to the large number of defects, SMMC decided to re-allocate approximately 600 million HUF in its annual budget for the immediate and thorough repair of the affected sections of the M1, down to the base layer. The works will be carried out on the M1 section between km 25 and 54, where, in addition to sites where minor repairs will take place, motorists should expect restrictions on the following four relatively long sections:
1. M1 km 25– 31 (7 Aug – 2 Sept)
2. M1 km 22 – 25 (3 Sept – 22 Sept)
3. M1 km 44 – 49 (25 Aug – 22 Sept)
4. M1 km 51 – 54 (23 Sept – 15 Oct)
During the reconstruction works two lanes will be available for motorists in both directions (with speed restrictions), by rerouting the outer lane to the other carriageway on one side, and a lane change on the other carriageway.
The establishment of traffic diversions and the duration of the works are subject to weather conditions. Travellers may obtain up-to-date traffic information through the company website (www.motorway.hu), by calling the +36-40-40-50-60 local rate number, and through the SMS information service that was launched in 2006. In order to request data, travellers using the SMS service should send the code of the selected Motorway (M0, M1, M3, M30, M35 or M7) to the +36 70 777 4636 phone number. The two reply messages contain general traffic information and a short description of the two most recent events on the given motorway.
The State Motorway Management Company Ltd. kindly asks for the patience and understanding of those travelling at the concerned sections.
