Road reconstruction works involving traffic restrictions start on the M1
On 10 September major road surface reconstruction works will start on the M1 between Biatorbágy and Tatabánya. The project, planned to finish in early November, will involve the renewal of the road surface on the inner lane on selected stretches between km markers 17 and 44, affecting both carriageways. Despite the diversions and lane narrowings, there will be two lanes available for traffic in both directions throughout the works.
The road reconstruction works between km markers 17 and 44 on the M1 will start on Saturday with the establishment of traffic diversions. Out of the road sections under SMMC’s supervision this stretch of the M1 is in the worst condition due to the growth in traffic, including a large number of heavy vehicles.
The works, which will be completed in several phases, will involve the renewal of the road surface over a total of 11 km on the inner lane. The project will involve the replacement of asphalt layers and the repair of the base layer as well.
SMMC always seeks to organise its operations involving traffic diversion and lane narrowing so that the works affect traffic conditions to the slightest possible extent. This is the guiding principle the Company will follow during the surface renewal of the sections concerned on the M1 as well. As the establishment and removal of traffic diversion systems are likely to cause the largest problems, these phases have been scheduled to take place during the weekends, when traffic is lighter. During the reconstruction works two lanes will be available for motorists in both directions (with speed restrictions), by rerouting the outer lane to the other carriageway on one side, and a lane change on the other carriageway.
Motorists travelling on the section concerned are advised to approach roadworks sites with great care and keep to the speed limits, in order to ensure the safety of workers on one the hand and, on the other hand, because traffic will be rerouted to varying lanes at the different locations.
Travellers may obtain up-to-date traffic information through the Company’s website (www.motorway.hu), by calling the +36-40-40-50-60 local-rate number, and through the SMS information service. In order to request data, travellers using the SMS service should send the code of the selected motorway (M0, M1, M3, M30, M35 or M7) to the +36-70-777-4636 phone number. The two reply messages contain general traffic information and a short description of the two most recent events on the given motorway.
State Motorway Management Company kindly asks for the understanding and patience of those travelling in the affected area.
